Sculptra, also known as the liquid facelift. It is quickly becoming popular for its ability to create a “natural and youthful” look for a large variety of patients. Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with little down time.

What is it?
Sculptra is a dermal filler, and is made from Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA). PLLA is a biocompatible synthetic version of the Lactic Acid that our bodies naturally produce. It is widely known for its ability to stimulate natural collagen production. When collagen production is stimulated, the skin becomes fuller.

Results - What to Expect
With Sculptra, the areas on the face that become hollow as we age, such as our cheeks and temples, begin to look smoother and fuller. Fine lines and wrinkles begin to smooth out and the texture of the skin begins to look bright, healthy, full and smooth.

How Is It Different Than Regular Fillers
Sculptra is different from any other dermal filler on the market. Other dermal fillers work instantly and you’re able to see immediate results, they also only last between three and six months at a time. Sculptra on the other hand works by gradually restoring natural facial volume over time. You receive three to four treatments total, getting one treatment every four to six weeks and the results can last for up to two years.

How The Treatment Works
The treatment is done by first applying a topical or injected numbing agent to the skin. Sculptra is then injected to the areas of concern. Often around the hairline, the cheeks, temples and jawline. After the treatment, it is suggested that you massage the injection sites for a few minutes several times per day to ensure proper distribution. There is very little, if any down time and you should be able to resume your daily activities immediately following the treatment.

Benefits of Sculptra
ISculptra can support a natural looking but youthful complexion that lasts far beyond any other dermal filler on the market. It isn’t just for the face. You can also receive a Sculptra Butt Lift, giving you a plump, lifted and smooth appearance. You can combine this treatment with other dermal fillers and procedures such as micro-needling without fear of ruining the collagen building process. You are stimulating your natural collagen production, so if you choose not to repeat Sculptra, you will still be producing more collagen than if you hadn’t ever done the treatment to begin with. It can be done in under an hour and has little to no down time.

Downsides to Sculptra
Results are not seen immediately. Because Sculptra is working with your body to stimulate that natural collagen production, it is typical to not see or notice any results until after the second treatment. The consistency of Sculptra is fairly thick and because of this, it can cause lumps and nodules directly below the injection site. They usually aren’t able to be seen topically but they can be felt. If administered poorly, you can have uneven distribution of the product under the skin along with bruising and swelling.

Sculptra History
Sculptra was officially approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in 2009. Since then they have found that the long term effects of Sculptra on the skin are mostly positive. They are noticing that even those who do not continue to receive the treatment, are still benefiting from the initial injections that stimulated the collagen production.

Sculptra has some great, long lasting benefits that are definitely worth considering. With that, it is paramount that you find a licensed professional with experience who is able to answer any questions or concerns that you may have about the treatment.
