My skin at age 47

I’ve tried almost every mainstream anti-aging skincare ingredient out there over the last 6 years, treatments, products - everything.

VERY FEW PRODUCTS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
There are only a handful of ingredients or product types that move the needle and reverse the signs of aging.

HOW TO GET THE MOST “BANG FOR YOUR BUCK”
The key to getting the most bang for your buck with skincare is to learn which ingredients make the biggest difference and focusing on using them regularly.

USE ONLY PURE INGREDIENTS
It’s about buying products with purity and high enough concentrations of the RIGHT INGREDIENTS.

I USE A 3 PRONGED APPROACH:

  1. EXFOLIATION

  2. ANTIOXIDANTS

  3. OILS

See the ingredient and product types I use below:

1. EXFOLIATE EXFOLIATE EXFOLIATE

Exfoliating is the process of removing the dead skin cells from the top layer of skin which stimulates the skin to regenerate new skin cells.

Good exfoliation is what helps skin look smooth, healthy and glowy :)

There are 3 main ways I exfoliate:
- Using a Retinol Regularly
- Chemical Peels
- Enzyme Masks

RETINOLS
Retinols work by speeding up the skin's natural exfoliation process.

Imagine your skin as a bustling city with old, tired cells building up like debris. Retinols swoop in and push out these old cells to make way for fresh, new ones.

Retinols can minimize fine lines, wrinkles, enhance collagen production, unclog pores, improve skin texture, fade dark spots, reduce acne and promote new skin cell growth.

The Retinol I’m Currently Using:

  1. 2% Retinol Serum
This retinol is made by a small brand that cares about the quality and purity of their ingredients.

Just make sure to spot test your skin first and make sure you aren’t overly sensitive to it. Gradually increase the use of it depending on what your skin can tolerate.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels use an acid solution to remove dead cells on the surface. When applied to the skin, the acids break down the bonds between old skin cells, causing them to shed.

This process uncovers the fresher, smoother skin underneath.

This process helps improve skin texture and reduce signs of aging.

Chemical peels can minimize wrinkles, smooth skin, stimulate new skin cell growth, lighten dark spots, minimize acne and blemishes and help your skin glow.

Here Are Chemical Peels I Use:

PHA Peel
This 10% PHA Peel is gentle but effective.

Formulated with Polyhydroxy Acids (PHA), this peel helps exfoliation with minimal irritation. It’s perfect for various skin types, including those with sensitive skin.

PHA peels can remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, improve skin texture, minimize wrinkles and fine lines and brighten dark spots.

HOT TIP:
I apply a little retinol (above) right after finishing the peel - it speeds up the flaking and healing process. It will magnify’s the results too!

ENZYME MASKS

Enzymes will basically “eat” away at dead skin cells. Enzyme masks are super gentle and a quick way to sluff off some dead skin cells - a cleaner surface for your skincare active ingredients to do their thing!

Here’s one I like:

Earth Harbor’s Fruit Enzymes & Red Seaweed Mask

2. ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants are VITAL to use regularly on aging skin.

Skin shows the signs of aging most where the skin hits it. (face, neck, hands, etc)

UV rays age skin faster than anything. The primary way to reverse this damage is through applying antioxidants to the surface of the skin.

What to look for in an antioxidant:
A high concentration of vitamin C or other antioxidant ingredient that is well absorbed into the skin.
(ferulic acid helps magnify results too)

Recommended Antioxidants:

I use a vitamin C serum and an anti-aging serum with bakuchiol (a natural retinol alternative) and astaxanthin (a super strong antioxidant).

Here are two vitamin c serums I use:

15% Vitamin C Serum
This brand is imported from France. this is a very high concentration of vitamin C. Start with small amounts and see how much your skin can handle!

Radiance Vitamin C
This serum has some of the highest concentrations of Vitamin C available in Kakadu plum, cloudberry, blueberry seed, rosehips, and sea buckthorn oils as well as ascorbic acid. In oil form, vitamin C can sink deep into the skin.

3. USE OILS

Using oils in my skincare routine has been a GAMECHANGER for 2 reasons:

  1. Oils sink deeper into the skin than water based products do.
(and they carry their nutrients deeper into the skin as well)

  2. They really protect the skin barrier.
This means protection from environmental skin damage, faster healing and skin rejuvenation, skin stays more hydrated and more.

I’ve transitioned away from using moisturizers constantly.

I do have a moisturizer I like but now I use mostly castor oil at night and whipped tallow during the day.

I also like pomegranate oil for lightening dark spots (day or night).

Which oil is right for you?

There are quite a few oils that are beneficial to the skin. I’ll go over them below.

I’ve Been Slathering My Face in Castor Oil Overnight 2-3x a Week.
The next morning my skin is glowing!

With Castor Oil I’ve Seen:
- fewer wrinkles & fine lines
 - tighter skin overall
 - lighter dark spots/aging spots

Castor Oil Can Also Help:
- lightens scars & stretch marks
- hair, lash & brow growth
- calm skin irritation & redness

HOT TIP: AVOID THE TYPE OF CASTOR OIL:

Avoid castor oil that has been chemically treated. This can irrituate your skin and strip the oil of the nutrients your skin needs.

Organic, hexane free, cold pressed is best for skin!

Rosehip & Pomegranate Oil
These oils are very high in antioxidants which makes them especially good for lightening dark spots and evening out skin tone.

I use castor oil mostly at night but like I said above I use whipped tallow during the day and rosehip or pomegranate oil for antioxidant, dark-spot-lightening help.
