My 5 Favorite Oils For
Dark Spots at 48
I’m 48 & I’ve been testing skincare products for the last 7+ years.
Take advantage of my experience!
Aging Skin = Dark Spots
Aging skin doesn't renew itself as quickly as it does when we’re young.
This slowing leads to extra pigment (dark spots) showing up on the skin.
What To Do?
Use antioxidants. (preferably oil-based)
Antioxidants Lighten Dark Spots
Antioxidants neutralize the trouble-making free radicals that lead to dark spot formation and speed up cell repair.
Which Antioxidant Is Best?
As I continue to test serums and oils for their effects on dark spots, my regimen has become more and more OIL BASED.
Why Antioxidant Oils Are Better
1. Oils Penetrate Deeper
Oils have an affinity with our skin oils and are able to penetrate deeper into the skin than most water based products.
2. Oils Create a Moisture Lock
Oils lock in moisture helping speed up the skin’s healing and renewal process.
3. Skin Vitamins Work Better in Oil
Many antioxidant vitamins (like A, D, E, and K) are fat-soluble, meaning they dissolve better in oils and can be absorbed more efficiently by the skin.
4. It’s More Natural
Many oils are naturally rich in skin health boosting vitamins.
5. Oils Are Soothing & Calm Redness
Most skin-friendly oils contain anti-inflammatories that soothe redness and irritation.
Which Oil Is Best For Your Skin?
It depends on your skin type & the look and feel you want.
These oils below are the oils I’ve used - I vary when I use them depending on what my skin needs at the time. Astaxanthin I use daily and regularly us castor oil and pomegranate oil. See which oil below fits your skin needs!
My 5 Favorite Antioxidant Oils For Dark Spots
(and how they differ)
1. Astaxanthin Oil
Looking for a STRONG antioxidant?
Astaxanthin is estimated to be 6000x stronger than vitamin C.
I use this astaxanthin = bakuchiol serum EVERY DAY and it is lightening dark spots for me.
6. Rosehip Oil
Looking to minimize blemishes, scars and hyperpigmentation?
Rosehip oil is high in vitamins A and C and essential fatty acids, making it excellent for someone looking to reduce the appearance of scars or hyperpigmentation.
7. Pomegranate Seed Oil
Looking to reverse UV ray damage?
Pomegranate seed oil is rich in punicic acid and vitamin C, which help to protect and repair the skin, making it perfect for those looking to fight environmental damage and promote cell regeneration. Pomegranate oil is great for under eye dark circles too!
I smother my face in pomegranate seed oil after spending time in the sun or when I notice dark cicles under my eyes.
9. Prickly Pear Oil
Looking For Soothing & Calming?
Prickly Pear Oil contains more vitamin E than most other oils which strengthens the skin barrier, reduces inflammation and locks in moisture like castor oil does, but is a much lighter oil. It also has a high vitamin K content which helps reduce dark circles and hyperpigmention.
8. Castor Oil
Looking For An Ultra Moisture Lock?
Castor oil is known for its thick consistency and high ricinoleic acid content, making it beneficial for deeply moisturizing and soothing dry, flaky skin, as well as promoting wound healing and reducing inflammation.
